The NetherReal is proud to present a collection of poetry from Ron Shiflet, each a new vision of terror in the world of New England's darkest secret. Travel the roads to insanity with Ron as he enlightens weary travelers to take care before they lose their very soul.
Witch-haunted Arkham is calling me home,
Like proverbial moths to candle flame,
I left as a youth, the wide world to roam,
But toward no place could I feel the same.
This New England town holds secrets and more,
Buried deep within history's pages,
A home to scholars of forbidden lore,
And mysteries passed down through the ages.
The Miskatonic's rushing waters call,
And the ancient church bells are now pealing,
Brown leaves of autumn are starting to fall,
While my feelings are long past concealing.
In joy I walk a dark, Arkham lane,
And until my death will surely remain.
Its said that in Innsmouth, folk disappear,
When not careful of the questions they ask.
Innsmouth is shrouded in rumor and fear,
Learning the truth is an onerous task.
Strangers are greeted with a hostile stare,
When careless enough to enter the place.
I wouldnt go there, no, not on a dare,
All the townsfolk are repellent of face!
Young feller, I see the doubt in your eyes,
Now its as plain as the nose on your face.
You think me daft, well its no big surprise,
To heed my warning would be no disgrace.
You think Im crazy, well do as you wish,
Its you that soon will be food for the fish!
An unfortunate soul, in madness screams
While confined behind asylum walls,
No respite from knowledge brought by dreams,
That come at night when the whipper-will calls.
What awful visions, what parting of vales,
Could sever the last thread of sanity?
From eyes perhaps came the dropping of scales,
Making mockery of man's vanity.
The once learned man now gibbers and moans,
"Burn that damned book!" he cries out in despair.
Evil ones older than the standing stones
Have a destiny for which they prepare.
"God please forgive me, this thing I have done,
Daring to read the Necronomicon."
